    Vision and Mission

“Access of justice for all” is the vision of State Legal Service in the Country. It summarizes what we stand for, what we have strived to achieve since the day of our inception, and what we intend to do in the years to come. We are re-emphasizing it once again when we are unfolding our vision and strategy for the upcoming future.

Going by the stark reality that a substantially large percentage of the population of this country still suffers from extreme poverty and wants in areas of food, nutrition, and public health, with no social security whatsoever and fear/apprehension amongst socially and economically disadvantaged people about relevance of the legal system only demonstrates that we have somehow faltered one way or the other and a lot more deserves to be done by laws, legal institutions, and by all other institutions.

Hence, keeping in view the impediments in the process of access to justice on account of social disparities and systemic barriers to legal aid movement, NALSA resolves to lay down ‘realistic working-strategies’ and to design ‘effective and concrete action plans’ to achieve the objectives of the task assigned to it.

The noble idea of legal aid to the poor, downtrodden, and weaker sections of society in the rapidly ever-changing sphere of social justice could find effective mobilization from the broad formulation of rules and regulations for giving proper scope to the aims and objects of legal services or legal aid. With the country’s new thrust towards the harnessing of potential and traditional institutions in increasing the efficiency of the system of social justice, the State of Sikkim too has joined in its work to implement the concept of alternate dispute redressal system.

People’s participation is essential for the success of any scheme of developmental administration. Voluntary participation and active involvement of people not only facilitates the easy implementation of projects but also enhances its acceptability. Such participation of people is secured when people themselves are convinced of the utility of the schemes and are aware of its socio-economic relevance and effects on themselves.

“A vision is not a project report or a plan target. It is an articulation of desired end result in broader terms.”
